In partnership with the Canadian Wireless Telecommunications Association (CWTA) and Industry Canada, WINBC is pleased to confirm the date for the CWTA / Industry Canada Regional Networking and Information Seminar. The seminar will be a lead up event to WINBC’s SPIF Face_Time Reception held on the same day and at the same venue. January 26th is going to be a powerhouse day for wireless in BC with the presence of CWTA and SPIF in town for community events.

Welcome & Opening Remarks by WINBC and CWTA:
Sang Mah, President of WINBC, and Peter Barnes, President & CEO of CWTA will open the seminar and introduce the day’s agenda.

CWTA represents the wireless industry before governments and various regulatory agencies, primarily involved with the activities of federal agencies such as the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC), Industry Canada and Health Canada.


Industry Canada:
Our Core Services for Industry and Communities: Penny Stratas (tbc), Regional Director, Industry Canada, SITT

The presentation will feature Industry Canada’s key roles, responsibilities and service offerings. A focus will be on the radio spectrum programs, technology related activities and marketplace services.


Spectrum Policy Framework:
Marc Dupuis, Director, New Wireless Technology and Services Industry Canada

The presentation will outline opportunities for innovation and business growth for wireless innovators and companies in areas such as wireless broadband, license exempt bands, RFID, Ultra Wide Band (UBW) and SDR. Frequency band allocations in and outside of Canada will be touched on as well.


Business & Regulatory Analysis Industry Canada, Telecommunications Policy Branch:
Fernand Leger, Director, Spectrum and Radio Policy, Industry Canada.

An overview of the regulatory environment: what do small firms need to know about government policy.


CRC:
Dr. Gerry Chan VP of Terrestrial Wireless Systems

Through the Technology Transfer and Innovation Centre programs, the CRC is positioned to help Canadian wireless telecommunications companies requiring expertise or facilities to carry out R&D on a new product. It is also dedicated to commercializing the R&D that is generated in its world-class laboratories and providing industrial benefits to small and medium sized Canadian companies. The presentation will outline these services that can assist Canadian wireless telecommunications companies in growing their business.


Export and Trade Opportunities:
Bill Johnston, Director, International Trade Canada (ITCan) Pacific Region

This presentation will cover the services and activities delivered to Canadian businesses from the Trade Commissioner Service. A overview will be provided on how business can increase their exports by tapping into market information, business opportunities and the core services offered from any of their 500+ trade commissioners in over 140 counties.
