MESSAGE FROM THE EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR

I often find myself struggling to decide on topics for WINBC events as our membership encompasses the entire value chain of wireless technologies, from components and devices to software to enterprise solutions. How do we continue to offer events on topics that are relevant and provide value and expertise to all of our members? This month’s Mobile Monday topic was a no-brainer: 2010 Opportunities - What’s in it for you?

First of all, you know this is a topic that EVERYONE is interested in when our presenters spoke to a full house while just down the street the Cancuks were fighting for survival at GM Place during game seven against Dallas. Good thing we pulled out a win! David Vogt, Executive Director of Mobile Muse, Andrew Tsui, Associate Director, Olympic Services with Bell and Rochelle Grayson, Consultant Media 2.0 and President of OBehave!Entertainment spoke to those in attendance about opportunities and how to get your piece of the pie.

The core message delivered by the panelists was, 2010 opportunities are plentiful but that we don’t dare forget strategy is paramount. Key areas of opportunity; Mobile Workforce/Business Process Management (construction, games operations), Mobile Information Services (ticketing, schedules) and Mobile Social Networking (tourism, entertainment, general sharing of the experience). Now what? Now is not the time to reinvent yourself, don’t lose sight of your fundamental business and traditional customers. The truth is for our smaller less experienced companies, contracts might be difficult to win with the RBCs and the Samsungs of the world, so consider your value proposition to 2010 through partnerships and subcontracting where possible, stay focused and carve out a deal for yourself. Always stay informed on decisions and opportunities and start building these relationships today.

We’re inviting 250,000 visitors from around the world into our home, with three billion more watching us on TV and the web. This is an opportunity for us all to bring the world to us, showcasing our Canadian innovation and I have no doubt we won’t disappoint.

WHAT'S THE STATE OF WIRELESS IN BC?

WINBC will be conducting its 3rd Wireless Survey, updating stats to reflect changes in the industry since our last survey conducted in 2005 as well as gathering new information as the landscape in BC continues to change and our wireless companies continue to grow. Someone from the Association will be contacting all wireless companies from within the province in the coming weeks, the feedback you offer is invaluable and we sincerely appreciate your participation.

If you did not participate in the collection of data for the 2005 Survey we may not have your contact information and our goal is to include every company. Please feel free to contact Shana Korotash at shana@winbc.org to learn how to get your company involved and listed in the Survey.

WINBC AGM & FACE-TIME NETWORKING EVENT - May 30, 2007

Celebrate the end of another great season of wireless events at WINBC’s Annual General Meeting and Face_Time networking event on May 30. For the third year in a row, the event will be held at Nokia and will include a scrumptious BBQ and the rare chance to groove to cool tunes by Nokia’s own band, "The Fabulous Ringtones!" Last year we were even able to convince them to take requests!

Face_Time begins with the AGM, followed by Elevator Pitches by two WINBC member companies. The first two people to respond to events@winbc.org will have three minutes to pitch their company at this grand event.

Don't miss this opportunity to participate in the AGM, stay up-to-date with WINBC’s exciting plans, listen to captivating elevator pitches -- and of course -- enjoy evening networking with your colleagues in BC’s dynamic wireless industry.

WINBC thanks its sponsors; Royal Bank and Corporate Recruiters and Nokia for providing the stunning venue for this event.

Trade Shows 2.0

Lisa Davis of CCNMatthews, the news distribution company, gives us an insight to trade show presence.

April, May and June mean more than just spring flowers, and for many of us, these months signal the arrival of conference season. Many North American communication professionals are busy polishing their trade show booths, practicing their handshakes and preparing mountains of media kits hoping to draw potential customers to their booths.
