INDUSTRY NEWS

Mike Zaks, NRC-IRAP given us an update on wireless activities in BC:

WINBC – and NRC-IRAP – a winning combination!

During the past 12 months, NRC- IRAP (NRC’s Industrial Research Assistance Program) has supported a number of local wireless companies in British Columbia who are involved with developing new applications, technologies and services in the wireless space. Specifically, we have seen developments and focus in the following areas:

  • Location based services (mapping, field management, etc.)
  • Management platforms for mobile content and service management
  • Games on handsets and ways of downloading content
  • Applications (surveys, medical devices)
  • Mobile payment systems
  • SMS
  • RFID
  • Remote sensing and monitoring devices for public utilities
  • Wireless broadband for remote areas

With mobile data speeds getting higher, we anticipate to see new opportunities for data intensive applications as well as mobile management and content. As the big companies will be driving major system development, there is a need for the many smaller players to stay connected, to better package their products and services and to be able to provide a total solution through strategic partnerships.

This is where NRC-IRAP helps most often. With decades of experience in supporting SMEs, NRC-IRAP has established a solid reputation for providing industrial research and development expertise directly to clients. Through an unrivalled network of local, national and international resources, our program puts SME's in touch with the R&D knowledge, technology and potential financing to help your business succeed. We are here to help your company to grow stronger, faster and bigger. In many instances, NRC-IRAP support has proven to shorten a company's development time, reduce risk and increase their chances of success.

My colleagues and I have enjoyed working with the many SMEs in the wireless space, and we look forward to a successful and productive year ahead. Please contact me at mike.zaks@nrc-cnrc.gc.ca or Nick Fong nicholas.fong@nrc-cnrc.gc.ca to discuss how NRC-IRAP can best help your company become a leader in the wireless technology market.
