MESSAGE FROM THE EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR

I have to admit I belong to the Facebook club, mainly because people continued to ask me to “add them as a friend” and I finally grew tired of the requests and gave in. Lately though I have been absolutely inundated with requests from colleagues, current friends, college and high school friends, and relatives to add them to my list. Not much wonder, Canada has three million users logging into Facebook, half off them on a daily basis. Outside of the US, Canada has the greatest number of users. Toronto has the largest regional network worldwide at 639,724. Vancouver ranks higher than New York with 279,269 users!

The social networking site boasts;

  • 100,000 new members each day
  • 1-2 million on Facebook simultaneously at any given moment
  • 1% of the total Internet traffic is Facebook
  • 30 billion page views per month

Then we take it mobile...

How big is mobile social networking getting? As predictions stand, mobile social networking could become as big if not bigger than online social networking. All the big players are striking up partnerships vying for customer attention; MySpace took the plunge with Cingular Wireless, Google and Verizon Wireless have recently ended their exclusive deal, therefore providing all mobile YouTube fanatics with the opportunity to browse a limited library of videos. As low-key and minimalist as Apple’s marketing of the iPhone has been, Apple is promoting the 10,000 YouTube videos that will be available for download at the initial release. AT & T announced last week they will be launching a video-sharing service enabling users to send live, one-way video feeds while simultaneously carrying on a conversation. Even start-up Helio has begun to offer phones pre-loaded with MySpace features.

Technology aside, and as celebrated, convenient and just plain cool as a lot of these features are, when I am now exchanging messages and pictures with people who live and work not more than a few block away, it will be curious to see what kind of long term impact this form of social networking will have on human behavior and actual physical social interaction. One can not argue, it certainly is a force to be reckoned with!!

strategico marketing group and WINBC present "CALL HIGH / BRING VALUE" one-day sales workshop - August 1, 2007

The world of selling is under siege. Transactional sales are moving to extranets; companies are dramatically reducing the number of suppliers and moving toward strategic partnerships with higher value-add; buyers are better educated using powerful on-line search tools; product quality is dramatically improved with shortened life cycles, making true product differentiation much more difficult to accomplish and sustain. What’s a sales rep to do?

This is no ordinary seminar or training course. This is a focused, intensive, hands-on boot camp for executives and salespeople who need to penetrate the top levels of their target accounts and to succinctly communicate their unique value proposition.

MEMBER PROFILE

We keep coming across new companies and adding new members to WINBC. This month we highlight visual byte and pinchevsky & co.

First up, Dwayne Lamb, President and CTO of Visual Byte tells us more about his company.

What opportunity did you see when creating Visual Byte? Was there a gap in the market that you fill and what is that?

Visual Byte was created in the early 1990’s as a vehicle to pursue my passion for developing software, and for helping customers solve business problems with technology. That was also about the time that the Microsoft platform and family of related technologies were starting to gain some traction and Microsoft began plowing new paths in the developing technology frontier, which were also creating numerous and varied secondary opportunities in their wake for companies that choose to follow. Our niche has historically been custom software development and the accompanying skills and services that go along with scoping, designing and building quality software that ultimately improves business processes.

Next up, Terry Trotic, General Manager, Western Region, tells us about Pinchevsky & Co.

The Opportunity

Pinchevsky & Co was formed out of a real need in the market place for SR&ED technical expertise.  In all other areas of business, a company hires experts when necessary, for example tax accountants, IP lawyers, IT experts, etc. With the SR&ED program, companies had been left to their own defences as they attempted to understand the guidelines, interpret them within the context of their industry, prepare a technical claim and defend this claim in front of the CRA.

Strategico Marketing Group - Sales Meetings - Friend or Foe?

Unfortunately, there is a common sentiment that sales meetings are things to avoid unless absolutely necessary. This is undoubtedly the result of many less than satisfactory experiences in producing (yes, producing) expensive and poorly executed events that do not accomplish desired objectives. Yet a sales meeting can be the most efficient tactic to assess, develop and motivate one of the most expensive functions of a company – the sales force.
