MEMBER PROFILE

Terry Trotic, General Manager, Western Region, tells us about Pinchevsky & Co.

Pinchevsky & Co is a management consulting firm specialized in assisting companies with the recovery of their Scientific Research & Experimental Development Tax Credits (SR&ED).

We strive to maintain the highest standard of service. This is accomplished through our consulting methodology and our full-time team of technical experts, scientists and engineers from various fields of technology.

We have a mandate with our clients to optimize their SR&ED recovery while minimizing their efforts. We assist companies from different technology sectors, from small businesses to large multi-nationals who see the benefits and added value of the Pinchevsky methodology, program expertise and our hands-on approach. We are there every step of the way beginning with SR&ED project identification right through to audit defence.

We have a proven track record for uncovering, preparing, and defending thousands of claims across the country through our offices in Vancouver, Toronto and Montreal.

The Opportunity

Pinchevsky & Co was formed out of a real need in the market place for SR&ED technical expertise. In all other areas of business, a company hires experts when necessary, for example tax accountants, IP lawyers, IT experts, etc. With the SR&ED program, companies had been left to their own defences as they attempted to understand the guidelines, interpret them within the context of their industry, prepare a technical claim and defend this claim in front of the CRA. As the SR&ED program is often the most significant source of funding for a company in its early years, having technical consulting expertise available to assist them is critical.

Although the program has been around for 20 years, we continue to encounter businesses that are not claiming or under-claiming as they do not understand the scope of the guidelines or have had difficulties getting their submissions accepted for various reasons. A well prepared claim can mean a difference of hundreds of thousands of dollars to a company’s bottom line on an annual basis.

Our Impact on Industry

The SR&ED program is intended to be an incentive program to promote research and development within Canada. Our expertise assists those companies that fully qualify for the program but do not have the internal resources to take full advantage of the program. Our expertise allows Canadian companies to commit to the R&D necessary to compete in today’s marketplace and advance its technologies.

Our Incentive

It is rewarding to see the impact or difference you have made on your clients and their bottom line. Many of our clients rely on this funding to support current developments but also their technology of tomorrow. Without this funding, many companies may not have survived their development cycles but are now flourishing as a result.
