Unity Wireless Nears Phase-One Completion of $1.1M India Project for 2006
Unity Wireless this week released an update on its sole vendor supply agreement for microwave repeaters with one of India's largest wireless network operators. Phase one of this two-stage deployment will be completed by the end of this month with the installation of Unity's microwave outdoor frequency shifting repeaters valued at over $600,000. The network operator forecasts that the final stage order in this $1,100,000 project will be placed in by the end of Q4 or early Q1 2007, with planned installation of the full system to be competed by the end of Q3 2007. Revenues for orders of this type are usually recorded based on negotiated terms starting from the shipping date.
"The Indian market is one of the fastest growing wireless markets in the world, adding about a million new subscribers a week. Most of the worldwide wireless integrators are in India already and Unity has positioned itself strategically in this region to benefit from the rapid growth. Providing coverage enhancement equipment to the largest local operators in India is now delivering strong dividends after several years of business development investment by our senior Coverage Enhancement team local support team," said Ilan Kenig, CEO of Unity Wireless.
Icron Expands Market for USB Extension and Prepares for Next Generation Wireless USB 2.0
Icron Technologies (TSX Venture: IT), the developers of ExtremeUSB, continue to expand the market for USB extension and wireless USB applications.
In the wired extension market, the company has enjoyed record growth and revenues for USB 1.1 and USB 2.0 extension in KVM, Remote Desktop, Presentation Systems and Media Server applications. Icron recently announced a development partnership with Inova Semiconductor to launch the first integrated DVI/USB over CAT5 extension solution and reference design, and has already deployed this solution with customers in the industrial control market.
Icron is also progressing in the Wireless USB 2.0 space and is soon to complete a Cable Free USB 2.0 hub solution based on an industry standard 802.11g platform. In addition they have entered a joint development agreement with Global Interface Technologies (GiT) to offer USB connectivity over GiT's short range UWB platform.
The ExtremeUSB based Cable Free USB architecture, developed in partnership with Freescale Semiconductor, is being ported over to other UWB and 802.11 platforms and will result in solutions available to the market 2007. While the UWB market is in its infancy and it will take time to see substantial order volumes, Icron will continue to assist UWB companies to offer true wireless USB 2.0 functionality. Our immediate focus on using 802.11g chipsets for a Wireless USB 2.0 solution will address a number of shortcomings with current UWB solutions including, lower cost, improved range, maturity of technology, international regulatory approvals and general market acceptance.
