OVERVIEW
This is an industry-driven and supported, community-focused and government-assisted project. The goal is to drive collaboration between companies, enhance convergence between industries, give exposure to the innovative development taking place in Vancouver and build a legacy that will benefit the region in the long term.
This is a once in a lifetime opportunity to get exposure for our 1,000 wireless and new media companies and universities and to create an innovation system where entrepreneurs, developers, designers and students from all sides of the wireless and new media community can work and play.
- User Experience + Media. This is a once in a lifetime opportunity. No Olympic Games in the history were able to offer a mobile and new media experience. . The exposure to 3,000 non-accredited media and hundreds of business development contacts is priceless.
- Content + Community + Commercialization. The BC wireless and new media industries have never collaborated on such a large scale on such a focused world class project. Opportunity to show that we are truly a world class wireless and new media cluster!
- Canada, BC, and Vancouver Brand. We need to tell the world our story and make sure that the world sees that Vancouver, BC and Canada are more than just beautiful mountains, grizzlies, geese and Mounties.
Who can participate?
- Any BC or Canadian company/organization involved in wireless or new media
- Entrepreneurs, developers, designers and students from all sides of the wireless and new media community
What applications/services are needed?
Any innovative product/service in the wireless, LBS, social media, visitor info services, web 2.0, gaming, TV, film, entertainment, digital media that is produced by a BC or Canadian company.
Strategic Goals
- To showcase the innovative developments in the wireless and new media sector in BC and WOW the world;
- To provide a unique and valuable service that will enhance the experience for visitors, locals, media, and athletes in Vancouver;;
- To encourage collaboration between the wireless, new media, digital arts, film and tv, and other knowledge-based sectors in the creation of an innovation system that will connect R&D with industry’s commercialization focus;
- To unleash the collective creativity and experience found locally in the wireless and new media community to enhance existing applications, to create new content and to generally maximize the benefits of an open development process;
- To connect participants with economic opportunities created by the Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games; to build capacity and to develop new relationships that will lead to expanded trade, investment and commercialization opportunities.

The funds will be used for the life of the project (12 months) as follows:
- To hire a F/T Project Director (i.e. Chief Architect, CTO)
- To pay for a few developers and contractors that will need to integrate various parts of the project and make sure we deliver a great experience
- To manage the overall project
- To market the showcase and service to the intended audience
